Open Question: Should John Edwards just have 'fessed up?

We aren't stupid and we shouldn't care about the Edwards affair so why didn't he just spill his guts quick (rather than do it slowly like he is doing... drawing it out... like he is starving for attention). Month 1: Deny affair Month 2: Admit affair and say that he told his wife even though he "didn't want anyone to find out"...WHAT? Then don't tell your wife, idiot! So I don't buy it Month 3: Slowly cancel each speech you were scheduled to make 1 at a time saying that you don't want to cause a distraction (as if he hasn't been out of the news anyway) Month 4... This could have been done with in 1 day if he would have said "Yeah, I had an affair, it has gone on for over a year and a half. I am the baby's father. My wife found out and so I had to confess so now I am confessing to the nation." BIG DEAL...it would have been OVER. Now we just have to deal with listening to this for months because he is a liar.
